Ways to recover FAT partition from disk
Partitioning is a process of dividing the large chunk of hard disk into smaller sections. Drives can also be partitioned to break down a disk making it manageable for data storage, or to run separate operating systems on different partitions of the same disk. Partitioning a drive into smaller segments increases system performance by reducing the work computer has to do to index and find files.
Partitioning can be performed on a new or reformatted disk. Partitions can be formatted with different file systems like FAT, NTFS, etc which manages and stores the files and folders on the drive. FAT (File Allocation Table) is computer file system architecture originally designed for small disks and simple folder structures. It is widely used in computer systems and in majority of flash memory cards. The FAT file system provides has maintenance utilities like disk checker that repairs and retrieves corrupted data, that is when the data becomes inaccessible which hinders the successful transmission, retrieval, or processing of the data. There are three types of FAT; they are FAT 12, FAT 16, and FAT 32. A partition formatted with FAT file system, FAT describes what clusters is used by which files.
Partitions are created for user’s convenience however, these partitions may be corrupted. Most of the corruptions of partition are unforeseen; therefore, a user may fail to take appropriate steps to prevent it. In cases when a partition of the drive is either lost or corrupted, the situation demands disk partition recovery. Some of cases that corrupt partitions are shutting down the system improperly, power surge, and virus infection. There are more reasons that add on to loss of a partition like;
- Unfamiliarity of a user to use Disk utility: A user may try to merge the partitions, if a drive letter is not assigned to the partition, Windows Disk management might show unallocated space and the partition would go missing.
- In windows vista and windows 7, to create a partition there must be unallocated space on the hard disk; if there is no unallocated space user can shrink existing partition, some create some using Windows Disk Management.
- Error while changing the file system: Change in file system leads to data loss. “Warning: Re-reading the partition table failed with error 22: Invalid argument” this error is encountered while changing the file system from default FAT 32 to any other file system.
When you figure out that, the FAT partition is inaccessible or you have lost a partition while partitioning user needs to perform FAT partition recovery. Under simple cases of partition loss user may opt for manual recovery, which has its own limitations, and it consumes lot of time. The easier and quicker way is to use softwares that can undo the partition loss to do the task. There are several softwares engineered that recovers the data as well as entire partition perfectly.
Remo Recover (windows) is the best utility that recovers the data and the entire partition when it is lost, missing or simply deleted while running some third-party utilities.
